City of Albany opens cooling centers in wake of summer heat

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The City of Albany has activated Operation Safe Space to help people combat the heat.

According to the city, the heat index is projected to exceed 100 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Below is a list of cooling stations around the city:

The Albany Transportation Center

  • Address: 300 W. Oglethorpe Boulevard
  • Open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, open 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, and closed on Sunday unless otherwise notified.

The Dougherty County Public Library Central Branch in Downtown

  • Address: 300 Pine Avenue
  • Open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 2 p.m. through 6 p.m. on Sunday.
