ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — The City of Albany hosted its annual Paint the Town Pink event Friday (Oct. 2); it’s an event aimed at informing, educating, and celebrating those impacted by cancer.

Patricia Gaskins, downtown manager for the City of Albany, said the event is put on by the city with different departments working together as a team.

“It’s an opportunity to inform, educate, but also celebrate the survivors and also our angels who are impacted by cancer,” Gaskins said.

Gaskins said the event started small and has grown into a staple for the community. She said people were already on-site Friday morning before setup began.

For those who could not attend in person, the city offered livestreaming on its social media page. Room 100 at the Government Center was also set aside for handicap accessibility and for seniors to get out of the heat while still participating.

Attendees enjoyed a food truck, free photo booths, educational and health information, live entertainment with a DJ, and a men’s fashion show, which Gaskins called the highlight of the event.

Gaskins encourages people to get annual mammograms and to take advantage of available resources, and to celebrate those impacted by not only breast cancer, but any form of cancer.

She said it’s important to have something positive in the City of Albany.

“This is a happy event. It’s an opportunity for us to remember, to sing, to dance, to cherish those who we love, and also, there again, just to celebrate,” Gaskins said.
