(TNND) — CBS News CEO Wendy McMahon told staff Monday that she is resigning as the network's parent company nears a settlement with President Donald Trump over a "60 Minutes" interview with then-Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

"It's become clear that the company and I do not agree on the path forward. It's time to move on and for this organization to move forward with new leadership," McMahon said in an email obtained by The Associated Press.

“I have spent the last few months shoring up our businesses and making sure the right leaders are in place, and I have no doubt they will continue to set the standard,” she added.

Bill Owens, who served as executive producer of “60 Minutes,” announced his resignation in April.

He wrote in an internal memo, acquired by The New York Times, that it had recently “become clear that I would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it” and to “make independent decisions based on what was right for 60 Minutes, right for the audience.”

The $20 billion lawsuit filed by Trump accuses the program of misleadingly editing an interview with Harris to benefit her. CBS News has denied that.

“I am so honored to be suing 60 Minutes, CBS Fake News, and Paramount, over their fraudulent, beyond recognition, reporting,” Trump wrote on Truth Social about the lawsuit. “They are not a ‘News Show,’ but a dishonest Political Operative simply disguised as ‘News,’ and must be responsible for what they have done, and are doing."
