ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Road conditions are starting to deteriorate in north Georgia as a snowstorm blows through the state on Saturday.

Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) crews spread brine across most major roads on Friday into Saturday morning. Crews will continue treating and plowing the roads, but officials warn residents to stay inside unless it’s an emergency.

In Cumming, Forsyth County’s primary city, Traffic Anchor Taylor Tucker spotted a car that appeared to have slipped off the road at the intersection of GA 400 and Bald Ridge Marina, disconnecting its entire front bumper.

Not long later, Cumming police said two patrol vehicles had been hit in snow-related accidents. Although nobody was injured, officers are urging the public to stay off the roads — both for their safety and for the safety of first responders.

Meanwhile, in Gwinnett County, near-whiteout conditions reigned on some roads. A multi-car crash broke out on I-985 before Thompson Mill Road at around 12:30 p.m. Atlanta News First is trying to learn if anyone was hurt.

Gwinnett County police said they are responding to multiple crashes. Although transportation crews and other officials are working to clear the roads, officers are “strongly urging” drivers to stay home.

“Please help us keep everyone safe, including our officers working in these hazardous conditions,” the department said.
