ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — As Burt Jones and Rick Jackson head to a runoff for the Republican nomination in the gubernatorial race, Jones has challenged Jackson to another debate.
The two previously took the stage alongside other Republican candidates for governor on April 27 during the Atlanta Press Club Loudermilk-Young Debate Series. But now, Jones wants the two to go head-to-head before the primary runoff on June 16.

“Last time Rick Jackson was on stage, he claimed he couldn’t remember if he had illegal aliens working for him. Since then, he’s been caught up in Forsyth County Court trying to avoid paying an illegal alien workman’s compensation after he got injured on his property,” Jones taunted in his statement on Wednesday. “I think voters would be well-served to hear from Rick Jackson again and see if he’s gotten himself better acquainted with the truth since his last time on the debate stage.”
WATCH THE PREVIOUS DEBATE:
Jones, the state’s current lieutenant governor, has the valuable endorsement of President Donald Trump. But Jackson, the billionaire CEO of Jackson Healthcare, has quickly gained popularity, throwing a twist in what would have been an easy nomination.
Jackson’s campaign told Atlanta News First that he’s open to more debates before the runoff, but didn’t directly address Jones’ challenge.
