WACO, Texas — Multiple police agencies searched Baylor University's campus Thursday afternoon for robbery suspects, prompting emergency alerts ordering students, faculty and staff to shelter in place.

The university issued its initial alert warning of a "dangerous situation" and instructing the campus community to "seek secure shelter now" and "stay away from doors & windows."

In a follow-up message, Baylor officials told people to "Continue to SHELTER IN PLACE! Multiple police agencies on campus in pursuit of robbery suspects last seen on campus. STAY INDOORS."

The alerts, sent through the university's emergency notification system, emphasized that the situation was not a drill.
