Description

AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) — An Austin elementary school teacher arrested last week on child pornography charges now faces additional allegations of using artificial intelligence to create explicit images of his students, according to an arrest affidavit.

Carl Innmon, a fifth-grade teacher at Baranoff Elementary School, was found with over 365,000 known child sexual abuse material (CSAM) images during a Texas Department of Public Safety investigation, the affidavit says. He was initially arrested on March 12 on first-degree felony charges of possessing child pornography.

Further investigation revealed Innmon allegedly used AI technology to modify classroom photos of at least two 10-year-old students.

"Your Affiant observed on Carl's devices that Carl had a large quantity of real images depicting students in a classroom. On Carl's devices, those same images were placed in an AI generator, and the students were de-clothed," the affidavit reads.

The original classroom photos were taken with Innmon's iPhone between December 2024 and January 2025, according to timestamp data. Investigators worked with Austin ISD and district police to identify the children in the images.

Innmon now faces additional state jail felony charges for possession and promotion of lewd visual material depicting a child.

The investigation began in December 2024 when DPS identified an IP address sharing child pornography files. The IP address was traced to Innmon's residence, leading to a search warrant execution on March 11.

During questioning, Innmon admitted to downloading child pornography, according to the affidavit.

Innmon was placed on administrative leave after DPS notified Austin ISD Police of the investigation. Principal Alex Hassett said the teacher was last on campus March 11.

"We are working with Austin ISD Police and DPS to investigate if any misconduct occurred on campus," Hassett said in a letter to families.

Authorities have asked anyone with information related to the investigation to contact Austin ISD Police at 512-414-1703.
