ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany State University (ASU) has been recognized for their “exceptional” international academic exchange program.

Recently, the U.S. Department of State named ASU a “Fulbright Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Institutional Leader” for 2025.

Dr. Nneka Nora Osakwe, Fulbright Scholar Liaison and Executive Director of the Center for Transformational Student Experiences, said, “The Fulbright Program is a core initiative that helps ASU advance curriculum internationalization. Faculty members gain from professional development that allows them to integrate intercultural and international learning into courses, enriching students’ global perspectives.”

At ASU, global and intercultural learning has been included in more than 130 courses. They also hosted Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Dr. Ngozi Udengwu from the University of Nigeria-Nsukka. Dr. Udengwu shared African cultural and theatrical traditions on campus, educating students on the African marriage systems, culinary traditions, and crafting practices.

Professors from ASU have also traveled to Palestine, Columbia, Singapore, and Malaysia.
