Description

GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Early Sunday morning, a Cairo man was once again charged after running from Grady County law enforcement, according to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 1:30 a.m., a deputy tried to stop David Kennedy, of Cairo, on GA 93 North for an equipment violation. Kennedy refused to stop and fled northbound towards Mitchell County, according to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO).

After crossing the county line, Kennedy was pulled over, ending the pursuit without further incident, the sheriff’s office said.

In a Facebook post, Sheriff Earl Prince confirmed that Kennedy was taken into custody and taken to the Grady County Detention Center.

“That was the smartest decision he made all night,” said Sheriff Prince.

WALB previously reported from the GBI that in 2020, Kennedy was arrested after fleeing from deputies and trying to run over an officer. This led to him being shot by a deputy.

“This is a reminder to everyone: when law enforcement signals you to stop, do it,” Sheriff Prince emphasized. “You’re not going to outrun the law, and trying to do so could cost you your life.”

GCSO said that this case is still under investigation, and charges are pending.
