BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is leading an investigation after law enforcement fatally shot a woman during traffic stop in Bartow County.
According to the bureau, the shooting happened Wednesday during a traffic stop at the intersection of SR 20/Canton Highway and Conference Center Drive in Cartersville.
GBI says before the traffic stop, the woman, identified as 50-year-old Carrie Hall of Cartersville, “reportedly arrived at a home in Bartow County and fired a gun.” The homeowner, who said they knew Hall, identified her and gave her name to responding deputies.
Around 8:40 p.m., deputies and a Cartersville police officer found the Hall’s vehicle and began a felony traffic stop. During the traffic stop, GBI says Hall “got out of the vehicle armed with a gun and did not comply with repeated verbal commands to drop the weapon.”
The responding authorities on scene fired their guns, hitting Hall. She was taken to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead, according to the bureau. No officers were injured.
GBI says they will continue it’s investigation and will file the case with the Bartow County District Attorney’s Office once it is done.
