ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Time is running out for Georgia homeowners facing foreclosure because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Georgia Mortgage Assistance Program will stop accepting new applications at 11:59 p.m. on March 31, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs said Tuesday.

To qualify, you must owe at least three payments, all due after Feb. 1, 2020. The total amount owed cannot be more than $50,000.

The department said the program has helped nearly 12,000 Georgians remain in their homes and prevented over 1,600 foreclosures statewide.
