Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany Utilities will begin sending “Continuous Flow” water usage notifications to customers on Monday, Aug. 3, as part of an effort to help identify potential water leaks and reduce unnecessary water loss.
The notifications are triggered when a customer’s water meter detects water flowing continuously for a 24-hour period on the customer’s side of the service line.
According to Albany Utilities, receiving a continuous flow alert does not necessarily mean there is a major leak or emergency. Instead, it serves as a warning that water is running somewhere beyond the meter, which could be caused by a leaking toilet, dripping faucet, irrigation system issue, or another source of ongoing water use.
Customers who receive an alert are encouraged to:
- Check faucets, toilets, irrigation systems and outdoor spigots for water running unexpectedly.
- Look for signs of leaks inside and outside their home or business.
- Confirm whether the water use is expected, such as filling a swimming pool or another planned activity.
- Arrange for repairs as soon as possible if a leak is found to help prevent higher water bills and conserve water.
Albany Utilities says addressing unexpected water use quickly can help customers save water, avoid increased utility costs and prevent more significant service-related issues from developing.
