ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Albany police are investigating a family violence aggravated assault case after a woman reported being beaten and threatened with a firearm at a home on East Third Avenue.
According to an Albany Police Department incident report, officers responded to a residence in the 1200 block of East Third Avenue on May 30 after receiving a report involving an armed suspect.
When officers arrived, they learned the alleged assault had occurred several days earlier, on May 26.
Officers reported observing multiple injuries, including bruising on the victim’s arms and legs, a black eye and broken blood vessels in both eyes. Investigators noted the injuries led them to classify the case as aggravated assault due to the possibility of strangulation, although the victim told officers she had not been strangled.
Police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Tabius Rashad Wheeler. Officers were unable to locate him at the scene because he had left before they arrived.
The victim reportedly told police that after Wheeler discovered messages on her cellphone, he became angry and repeatedly punched her in the face. She said she attempted to flee the home, but Wheeler chased her outside, dragged her back toward the residence and continued to assault her.
The victim told investigators Wheeler later pointed a firearm at her head, cocked the weapon and threatened to shoot her. She said she locked herself in a bathroom before the suspect eventually stopped the attack.
The case remains active and has been forwarded to investigators for further review.
