Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - As communities across the country observe National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, leaders in Albany are recognizing the impact crime has on victims and their families while calling for continued support.

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, millions of Americans experience violent and property crimes each year, many of which go unreported. Advocates say events like this are critical in raising awareness, connecting victims to counseling and legal resources, and ensuring their rights are protected throughout the justice process.
“Well, we have to set aside a week to remember those who have been victims of crime, but also to recognize and console the families and survivors of crime, particularly violent crime, which we have far too much of it in our society and in our community.”
Local leaders say in Albany, efforts are ongoing to reduce violent crime while also expanding support systems for victims and their families, emphasizing that healing and prevention must go hand in hand.
