ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - An Albany man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for the 2023 killing of his girlfriend.

Rico Lashon Hall was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole Tuesday, Sept. 1, according to Dougherty County court officials. This comes after Hall shot and killed his girlfriend, Nakeisha Warren, 32, back in 2023.

“The court made the right decision today by sentencing Rico Hall to life without the possibility of parole. Dougherty County cannot tolerate gun violence in any form—especially in situations involving family violence. Rico Hall alone chose to take Nakeisha Warren from her family, and he has now been held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Nakeisha Warren was a bright light in this community, and that light was stolen. Today’s sentence cannot restore what was lost, but it does make clear that those who take a life in our county will face the consequences,” said Dougherty County District Attorney Gregory Edwards and Assistant District Attorney W. Dowdy White in a written statement sent to WALB after the sentencing.

Back on n Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023 around 11:30 p.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Julia Avenue in reference to a shooting. Warren was found with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to APD, Hall ,who was 30 at the time, shot Warren and left the scene in her car, a white Nissan Altima. A report was later received that Hall wrecked the car on De Short Road in Sasser and ran off.

A Terrell County Deputy notified APD that a man was seen walking along Highway 82W near Mark’s Melon Patch, back toward Albany. The lead investigator responded to the area; Hall was caught, but refused to talk about the deadly shooting.
