ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Customers and staff at a south Albany gas station are buzzing with excitement after learning their store sold a $1 million-winning Powerball ticket—even though no one seems to know exactly who bought it.

The winning ticket matched all five white-ball numbers in Saturday’s drawing and was purchased at the Marathon Mart, located at 402 North Westover Boulevard, according to the Georgia Lottery Corporation.

While the identity of the winner remains a mystery in the neighborhood, the news has already changed the mood at the store.

“I’m feeling very happy. This one million is good one,” an employee of the store said.

Employees said they don’t know who bought the ticket, but they say the win has drawn more people to the gas station.

Regular customer Willie Canty said he wasn’t surprised the Marathon Mart was the lucky location.

“Someone at another store told me that someone at the store here had won a million dollars,” Canty said. “I said, well, that’s great. I go there for myself and play. I’m not kidding: Every day I’m just about in here.”

Canty admitted he didn’t hit the jackpot himself, but that didn’t discourage him.

“I feel I still have a chance,” he said. “If it’s luck, let everybody get something. Let everyone get some luck.”

The Marathon Mart wasn’t the only Georgia retailer with a big winner over the weekend. A ticket sold at Mike Food Mart in Macon matched four white-ball numbers plus the Powerball for a $50,000 prize, according to Georgia Lottery officials.

Several other players across the state won smaller prizes over the weekend playing Quick Win games, Diggi Games and other lottery draws, from Powder Springs to Savannah.

Players will get another shot at a big jackpot soon—the estimated jackpot for Wednesday, Sept. 2’s Powerball drawing is $146 million, according to lottery officials.
