ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Local law enforcement officers and emergency responders swapped their patrol cars for conversations on Saturday, coming together to strengthen community relationships across Albany and Dougherty County.

The Albany Police Department, Dougherty County Police Department, and Albany Fire Department teamed up with Five-Star Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram to host their first-ever Community Day on the dealership’s lot.

The afternoon featured local food trucks, neighborhood vendors, and family activities designed to give residents a chance to interact with first responders outside of emergency situations and flashing blue lights.

Organizers said the primary goal of the gathering was to break down barriers, build open lines of communication, and build mutual trust throughout Dougherty County.

“The purpose of this event is just to let the community know that we’re here to serve, protect, and make a difference,” one organizer said. “It’s all about building trust with the community so they can trust that we have their back through whatever they’re going through.”

Agencies had personnel on hand to answer questions, distribute community resources, and offer families an up-close look at emergency equipment.

Organizers emphasized that Saturday’s inaugural event is only the beginning of an expanded community outreach effort. Plans are already underway for the next gathering—a Breast Cancer Awareness Community Day scheduled for next month.
