ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Multiple law enforcement agencies from across South Georgia gathered Saturday to honor former Dougherty County EMS Supervisor Phillip Jackson, who died after investigators say he was shot by his wife, Amanda Jackson.

Jackson worked with Dougherty County EMS for 27 years. EMS worker Ryan Head, who worked alongside Jackson, said the turnout from agencies across the region reflected the reach of Jackson’s career.
“He was just a very knowledgeable man — served his community very well,” Head said. “You can see with all the EMS services here how much of an impact he made to the community all over South Georgia.”
It is with deep respect and heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of retired Dougherty County EMS Supervisor, Phillip Jackson. Phillip dedicated 27 years of service to our county and to the profession of emergency medical services. Throughout his career, he exemplified professionalism, courage, and an unwavering commitment to patient care and public safety.
Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler also spoke to Jackson’s reputation.
“He was real knowledgeable, and he was also a teacher and an educator,” Fowler said. “He was very knowledgeable, and I was surprised at how much he did know. A lot of times we get on the scene, we start talking and discussing the patients or whatever. But he was the best of what he was talking about and knew what he was talking about.”
Dougherty County EMS said Jackson’s legacy will be remembered as someone who laid the foundation for the integration of EMS into high-risk law enforcement operations, ensuring that lifesaving care was available when it mattered most.
