ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The City of Albany Board of Commissioners approved the use of SPLOST VIII funds on Friday Dec 19, at the Government Center, to construct a new community center at the Bill Miller/Kalmon Malone Park.
The Commission also approved converting the existing gymnasium into an open-air pavilion and the rehabilitation of Carver Gym. This project would involve modernizing the gym with HVAC, hazardous material abatement, roof replacement, and ADA upgrades.
The City of Albany also says that the commission approved the use of TSPLOST I funds for sidewalk pavers on Washington Street and Flint Avenue. This project will feature color-coordinated pavers to complement and preserve the historical character of downtown Albany while improving walkability throughout the area.
Commission meetings are open to the public, and all community members are encouraged to attend.
