Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - One Albany robotics team recently brought home the “W” from a competition in North Georgia.
The 4C Academy’s mission is to produce college and career ready graduates who are prepared to compete and succeed in the real world. These students in particular are learning how to compete and succeed by building a large robot as high schoolers.
Each year the robotics team builds a new robot to fit the theme of the year. This year’s theme is water, and the name of the robot is fish.
“Sometimes engineering or other STEM careers are scary, especially for elementary and middle schoolers,” Payton Bush, a senior co-captain of the robotics team, said.
Bush said this program is setting her and her peers up for success in the future.
“Everyone wants to become an astronaut when they’re younger, but once you’re in high school those dreams kind of have faded. However, being a part of these programs makes you realize ‘Oh, I can still become an astronaut,’ or ‘I can still become a chemical engineer,’ ‘I can still become all of these different aspects’ because you’re actually learning these skills. Building confidence and knowledge in these different industries.”
Dougherty High School Robotics team also brought home it’s first blue banner from a competition in Gainesville.
If you’d like to support these students locally, they have a competition March 28th and 29th at the Albany Civic Center.
