ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Hope City United Church distributed complete Thanksgiving meals to 450 families during a community food giveaway.
Each family received a whole turkey, stuffing, and all of the traditional sides needed to prepare a Thanksgiving meal. According to Feeding America, one in seven Georgians faces hunger, including one in five children.
“It shows that we can all come together and enjoy each other and show each other appreciation,” one resident said.
Another resident said the giveaway helps during the holiday season.
“It benefits, it really helps me out this Thanksgiving,” the resident said.
With the U.S. Census average of 2.5 people per household, the giveaway will feed at least 1,100 people this holiday season.
Lead Pastor Trent Cory said the church enjoys meeting community needs.
“Year after year after year, we see is that there is always somebody that has a need, and so that’s what Jesus did in the scripture, he found people that had a need, and he met their needs before he talked to them about their life he met their needs, and so that’s what we love to do here.”
