Description
LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — A pet owner was cited after two dogs were reportedly found in “deplorable” conditions during an animal welfare check in Lee County, according to Lee County Animal Control.
Officials said Thursday, Aug. 20, that the dogs were kept in a makeshift enclosure surrounded by hazards. The dogs were in extremely unsanitary conditions and had no food or clean water, animal control said.
Lee County Animal Control also said the dogs were crawling with fleas and ticks, and they were begging for help.

The dogs’ owner, who was not identified by officials, was reportedly cited with the following:
- Animal cruelty and neglect (2 counts)
- Failure to provide proof of rabies (2 counts)
Each of these counts carries a fine of up to $1,000 and/or 60 days in jail, according to the animal control office.
Officials said both dogs were taken to the Lee County Animal Shelter where they were bathed and fed. Soon, they’ll be looking for forever homes.
