Description
VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - The Valdosta Police Department (VPD) is investigating a deadly crash early Saturday morning.
According to VPD, at around 2:20 a.m., first responders from VPD, Valdosta Fire Department (VFD), South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC) EMS, and the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 1400 block of Old Clyattville Road.
Police say someone called E-911 to report that he was in that area when he saw a vehicle that had hit a tree and was on fire. He also said people were lying on the ground outside of the truck and did not appear to be moving, VPD said.
When the officials first arrived they found two men who seemed to be ejected from the pickup truck, along with an unresponsive man inside the pickup truck. Officers tried to render aid, but vitals could not be located on two of the victims.
After extinguishing the fire, firefighters were able to get the driver out of the truck.
EMS pronounced the 21-year-old driver and the 23-year-old passenger dead on scene.
The other passenger, a 20-year-old man, was taken to SGMC and then life-flighted to a hospital in Florida. VPD said that he is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
Police say the Valdosta Police Department Traffic Unit, and the Valdosta Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory are conducting the investigation.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families, friends, and all those affected by this horrible accident,” said Chief Leslie Manahan.
