Description

LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Lee County is set to receive a major boost to its drinking water system after more than $1 million in federal funding was secured to modernize and expand local infrastructure.

U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff working alongside Congressman Sanford D. Bishop Jr., delivered $1,092,000 for the project through bipartisan government funding legislation that became law on January 23.

According to the release, the funding will allow Lee County to install new technology aimed at improving drinking water quality for residents. The project will also create a centralized source of drinking water, reducing the county’s reliance on several smaller private wells.

“Every town in Georgia deserves safe, effective water infrastructure,” said Sen. Ossoff. “That’s why I brought Republicans and Democrats together to upgrade drinking water infrastructure in Lee County.”

According to Lee County Manager Scott Addison, the funding will be used to construct a 1.0 million gallon-per-day groundwater production well and treatment facility.

“On behalf of the Lee County Board of Commissioners, I would like to thank Senator Ossoff for assistance obtaining $1,092,000 to enhance the Lee County Water Supply System,” Addison said. “This funding will be utilized to construct a 1.0 million gallon per day groundwater production well and treatment facility that will provide safe drinking water for the citizens of Lee County. I appreciate the support and all the hard work to get this funding approved.”

County leaders say the upgrades will help provide safer, more reliable drinking water for residents for years to come.
