TIFT COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A 10-year-old girl was seriously injured in a crash involving a school bus in Tift County, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

Tift County 911 received a call at 7:26 a.m. on Monday, April 20, about a school bus crash with injuries on GA 520 at Mixon Abbott Road. GSP said a 2016 Jeep Patriot, driven by Karina Soto of Enigma, was traveling west on GA 520 when a school bus traveling east attempted to turn left onto Mixon Abbott Road and failed to yield.

GSP said the front of the bus struck the left side of the Jeep, causing the Jeep to overturn. The 10-year-old female passenger was ejected and suffered serious injuries. Two other children were also in the Jeep.

The Jeep’s driver and the children were taken by ambulance to Tift Regional Medical Center, and the 10-year-old was later airlifted to a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Authorities said the other occupants of the Jeep had minor injuries.

The bus driver, identified as Alexander Williams, was not injured. GSP noted the bus did not have any children on board at the time of the crash.
