REWIND: We Be the Blues Documentary Premiere 
On Juneteenth — Friday, June 19, 2026, we invite our community to join us for a powerful and heartfelt evening as we premiere the first public viewing of the We Be the Blues short film documentary at the Albany Area Arts Council.
This event is especially meaningful to us because Juneteenth is also both mine and my husband’s birthday — and this entire project has truly been a labor of love created together with and for our community.
We Be the Blues began as a visual art series inspired by the lives, memories, histories, struggles, beauty, and resilience of Black families and communities throughout Albany and Southwest Georgia. From there came the music — the We Be the Blues: Songs from the Soil soundtrack album — and now, the documentary short film that brings it all full circle.
This film follows the creation of the paintings, the stories and people who inspired them, the making of the music, and the deeper cultural and emotional roots behind the project. It is a love letter to the South, to memory, to ancestry, to storytelling, and to our people.
After the screening, we’ll gather for a community discussion/panel and a short open mic experience where voices from the community can continue the conversation through poetry, music, and reflection. Light refreshments and beverages will be served.
