ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Multiple families in Albany are grieving after a series of fatal incidents occurred during the holiday weekend, including traffic accidents and potential homicides.

Several community members lost their lives in separate incidents that took place over the weekend, according to the Albany Police Department. The incidents remain under investigation.

Deputy Chief Wendy Luster said the tragedies serve as a reminder of life’s fragility.

“Over the past week, our community has faced heartbreaking events,” Luster said. “These tragedies remind us of how fragile life can be. Together we can honor those lost by building a safer, stronger, and more connected Albany.”

As investigators work to determine what led to each incident, police officials are encouraging residents to look out for one another both on the roads and within their neighborhoods.

Officials said community awareness and accountability can play a crucial role in preventing future tragedies.
