PORT ANGELES, Wash. — One person is dead and two others were injured after a small plane crashed in Olympic National Park on Tuesday, according to the National Park Service.
NPS officials said rangers were notified of the crash shortly before 7 p.m. in the Quinault area, a remote area of ONP.
The crash site was on a steep slope in the forest, north of the Irely Lake Trailhead.
The NPS said in a news release that rangers worked with Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Search and Rescue to coordinate a response.
All three plane occupants were taken to a "Level 1 Trauma Center," according to the NPS. A spokesperson for Harborview Medical Center in Seattle said the two people on the plane who survived the crash were both in "satisfactory condition" on Wednesday.
In the release, the NPS identified the plane as a Murphy SR3500 Moose.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it was investigating the cause of the plane crash.
